RIFCO Charity – The Haiti Children’s Home
See Our Sponsors/Supports of the 2011 "Steps for Health and Charity"
Each year, the staff at RIFCO chooses a worthy Charity to support. For 2010, the beneficiary was The Haiti Children’s Home through the Haitian Children’s Aid Society (HCAS) and $5,000 was raised in that year by the RIFCO Staff.
On January 10, 2010, Haiti was struck by a devastating earthquake and 316,000 Haitians lost their lives and damages occured that are estimated to be between $8 and $14 billion dollars. In the earthquake, the HCAS orphanage site at Mirebalais suffered irreperable damage but thankfully no lives were lost. Faced with overwhelming need, the RIFCO staff again chose HCAS as their charity of choice for 2011.
During 2011, RIFCO's 39 staff members work aggresively to raise money for HCAS through a wide variety of very successful fundraising events. RIFCO is pleased to announce that its staff has raised nearly $16,000 for HCAS. RIFCO's Management and Board of Directors are very pleased to match the staff's contribution bringing the total donation to $32,000.
HCAS has provided food, shelter, medical care, educational opportunities and means of life to orphans and other children in need, in Haiti since 2004. The orphange in Mirebalais currently has over 30 children and has been operating out of temporary facilities since January 2010. Land has been acquired and HCAS is raising capital in order to rebuild the orphanage complex. A master plan has been completed with the support of a non-profit engineering group (Engineering Ministries International). The total cost of the phased project is $1 Million.
The company is proud of the charitable efforts of the staff and the leadership provided by RIFCO's charity committee.
